JAN ZOETELIEF TROMP (DUTCH 1872-1947) A DAY AT THE BEACH Oil on canvas Signed (lower right) 30.5 x 40cm (12 x 15½ in.) Jan Zoetelief Tromp was a skilled artist known for his expressive paintings portraying idyllic family life. His works often depict children playing on the beach, frolicking in nature, picking flowers, and enjoying leisurely moments in the meadows. Tromp drew inspiration from his deep admiration for his wife and children, frequently using them as models. In the present lot, the canvas is filled with the warm glow of sunshine as three young girls and their dog spend a delightful day on the beach. The eldest of the three children holds an umbrella, providing shade for herself and her young companion as she indulges in a book. The little dog seeks shelter beside her, seeking respite from the sun"s rays. The beach is vibrant with activity, as people relax in their deckchairs and engage in play with model boats in the sea. Tromp"s artistic education began in The Hague at the Academy, where he studied under Frederick Johannes Jansen, before continuing his studies at the Academy in Amsterdam. He returned to The Hague and developed his distinctive style, influenced by the Hague School and his father-in-law, Bernardus Blommers. After spending time in Blaricum and Katwijk on Zee, Tromp and his family relocated to Breteuil sur Itan in France. His scenes depicting rural life, children, animals, and families in the Dutch landscape became highly popular, earning him widespread acclaim and numerous exhibitions throughout his career. Tromp"s paintings beautifully capture the joy and simplicity of everyday life. Condition Report: In overall appears to be in good original condition.
